DVD This Week: Jessica Alba Two-Fer

Jessica Alba has a two-fer week, but I think there’s really no comparison. Go get The Ten and leave Chuck to his bad luck.
Good Luck Chuck: Dane Cook, who has parlayed iffy stand-up comedy into a movie career, plays a guy who is apparently cursed to have sex with women and have them immediately leave him for their true love. Then he decides he loves Jessica Alba, so he can’t have sex with her. Also, Alba is a klutz, so they can have her fall down a lot in lieu of pretending she has actual comedic talent. The draw here, apparently, is that people get to watch Alba trying hard to have sex with a guy. Cue titillation.
The Ten: In one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen, a cast of lots of great people (and Jessica Alba) throw together ten stories about the ten commandments. Liev Schreiber, in particular, is fantastic as the man coveting his neighbor’s goods. And Winona Ryder makes out with a puppet. You’ve really gotta see it.
Mr. Woodcock: You’d think Billy Bob Thornton as an abusive gym teacher about to marry the mother of one of his old derision targets would automatically equal great comedy. That sadly doesn’t seem to be the case.
