Rally 'Round the Flag, Boys!

We all knew and loved Paul Newman and his storybook 50-year marriage to Joanne Woodward, and now on Fancast you can watch them working together in Rally ‘Round The Flag, Boys!

Duck Soup and An Affair To Remember director Leo McCarey adapted Max Shulman’s comic novel about Air Force reservist Harry Bannerman (Newman) of Putnam’s Landing, Connecticut, who finds himself at odds with his wife Grace’s (Woodward) overdeveloped sense of civic duty when she joins a committee to prevent the government from putting a military missile base in their town - a base for which Harry’s supposed to be the liaison. This tension is ratcheted up by local va-va-voom sexpot Angela Hoffa (Joan Collins) doing her level best to wrest Harry away from Grace, which results in a crazy amount of hijinks and snafus. Also of note are Dwayne Hickman and Tuesday Weld, the stars of a later TV series also based on a Shulman novel, Dobie Gillis; they play local youngsters Grady Metcalf and Comfort Goodpasture. That’s right. a high-school girl named Comfort Goodpasture. Watch it for that alone, if for some reason watching a Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward movie isn’t enough for you. If it isn’t, you need to get your priorities straight.
