Too bad reviews have been abysmally bad for tonight’s premiere of NBC’s sexy new series Lipstick Jungle. We recently chated with three of Lipstick’s stars and found Lindsay Price, Kim Raver, and Andrew McCarthy as personable as they are attractive.

Kim on her character Nico:
For me, with Nico I love that she’s not afraid to speak her mind. She’s unedited and she doesn’t apologize for who she is, which I think that’s, you know, a main key in who she is.

Lindsay on her character Victory:
I think the thing I like the most about Victory is that she is successful in the business
world but she doesn’t make any apologies for wearing her heart on her sleeve or being an emotional person, or maybe sometimes not being the most censored or reserved with what she has to say. She doesn’t make any apologies for her femininity also - being in a competitive, sort of cutthroat business.

Andrew on his character Joe and what drew him to the show:
I thought it was a really interesting show that treated women with a real regard, that I don’t see on television too much. And the character, I thought, was just somebody I don’t see very often on television played the way I would want to play him. You often see these rich, powerful guys as sort of sharks. And I just thought of him more as a man with a real sense of delight in the world by the tad and knows it, and enjoys that aspect of, you know, today is better than yesterday. Tomorrow will be better than today.

Andrew on whether he watched Sex and the City:
I loved it. You pick up all the tips you can and know what the other guy is thinking.

Kim on the accessibility of their characters:
I think that’s actually what’s interesting about these women. You know, on the surface
they can sort of seem like everything is going great and they’re doing really well and – but yet they’re flawed and vulnerable, and complex. And I think that that’s definitely an
asset to our show - that these women are going through things and working through them, and working through them together. And hopefully, that’s the journey that people will tune into. And that’s, I think, also what makes them accessible is their complexities.

Kim on if the ladies of lipstick jungle have a tight bond:
We actually do. And, you know, I know that may sound corny but it really - we really enjoy each other’s company, you know. When we’re filming scenes and they call cut, we’re still going at it and talking, and catching up.

Kim on the challenges facing women juggling careers and family:
So - and I also felt very fortunate that my producers were so supportive and my cast was so supportive of me to be able to bring - the fact that I could bring my son to work with me every day was amazing. And I’m noticing that more and more - that there are women in really high positions and that they’re making, you know, room where women can pump in big corporations. And I think that’s really important. I think it’s really important to be able to nurture a child and also to have a career. And that it shouldn’t be separate from one another.

Kim on Nico’s similarities to Audrey on 24:
I think they’re similar in the sense that they’re, you know, very good at their jobs, very smart, very competitive, very sort of striving for the best, you know, job that they can do.

Kim on whether or not she could see 24 co-star Keifer Sutherland appearing on the
show:

I could actually. I haven’t - we haven’t discussed it yet. But maybe. We’d have to talk about it.
