News: Highlander Reborn?

Many genre film fans have a soft spot in their hearts for the original Highlander film, starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery. The story about secret immortals traveling the earth trying to behead each other, because “there can be only one.”

Now it looks like the guys who wrote the screenplay for Iron Man and the upcoming Punisher: War Zone are now about to tackle the reinvention of this franchise that’s had so many lamentable missteps. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are the guys who will be stewarding this ship..

Before you get too excited, though, realize that Robert Downey Jr. mentioned something on Letterman that casts a little doubt on these guys.

“I basically came into the trailer every morning and balled up the script and threw it against the wall, and [director Jon Favreau] said ‘Good morning, Robert! I take it you’d like to rewrite the scene!’”

Let’s hope this was an exaggeration, and that there’s somebody they can cast in Sean Connery’s role that won’t automatically make you miss Sean Connery.
