Secret Life of an American Teenager’s Daren Kagasoff Has Secrets of His Own

The Secret Life of the American Teenager, premiering on the ABC Family channel this Tuesday, features 80’s teen sensation Molly Ringwald as (ghasp!) a mom. And not only any mom but the mother of a pregnant, maladjusted teen. It’s like Juno meets Sixteen Candles!

Daren Kagasoff, who plays resident bad boy Ricky Underwood, had a few secrets to share with us at the Nylon magazine School of Rock party this month in Hollywood.

Tell me a little bit about The Secret life of an American Teenager.
Its “The Secret Life of an American Teenager”, it premiers July 1st, and airs at 8pm on Tuesday nights. Its about six teenagers in high school going through a whole bunch of drama. They each have some sort of secret which is revealed throughout the show. There’s also drama with the parents themselves, so the show should be a good one.

Do you have a secret that you don’t reveal to too many people?
I’ve got several secrets. My character is the “bad boy” of the show who all the boys hate and all the girls love. My actions with hooking up with all the girls is justified by the dark past that the character has been through .

How did you prepare for the role that you’re doing right now?
I picked up on things with a couple people who I know who I guess you could say are “Don Juans” with the ladies. I picked up also from things in my daily life and brought it to the screen.

Do you have any guilty pleasure TV show that you’re watching right now?
To be quite honest, no I don’t. The only thing I really watch is Keeping up with the Kardashians since my buddy Rob is on the show. I love seeing him on TV, its just a trip.
