As assistant director of The Bill Engvall Show, Doug Tobin is a busy man – and he’s been that way throughout a career that includes The Larry Sanders Show, Whoopi, 3rd Rock From the Sun, and the late, great Herman’s Head. If he could manufacture a 26th hour to the day, he’d probably fill it and wish for a 27th. Still, somehow he finds time to watch TV. Here’s his list:

All Time Favorite TV series:

1. Saturday Night Live: For the past thirty-three years, it has been the most consistently funny show on television. It’s the birthplace of many great comedians.
2. The Sopranos: This may be the greatest TV drama ever made. It’s like watching a weekly feature film.
3. The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson: This is the man who defined late night television. It’s the home of some of the most memorable moments in television history.
4. I Love Lucy: Lucille Ball was a comic genius. It one the earliest and greatest sitcoms of all time.
5. The Bill Engvall Show: What can I say? TBS has brought the family sitcom back to television. Great cast, great writing, and the best crew in Hollywood.

Best Series Never Seen:
24: I don’t know what it is about 24, but as soon as people watch it they are addicted. Friends, family and coworkers spend endless amounts of time discussing its’ plot details.

Most Underrated:
3rd Rock from the Sun: Lead by John Lithgow, 3rd Rock featured one of the best ensemble casts in television. The scripts were brilliant and every episode was hilarious. It should have run ten seasons.
