WB Sues Over “Hari Puttar”

You’d think Warner Bros. would be sick of litigation right now, what with 20th Century Fox trying to block them from releasing Watchmen over rights issues. Or perhaps that’s just made them more jumpy about their own legal rights. Either way, they’ve decided to sue Mirchi Movies, the makers of the Bollywood piece Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors in Bombay, about the similarity of their title to Harry Potter. It doesn’t matter that Hari is a common Indian name and ‘puttar’ means ’son’ in Punjabi, WB is suing anyway.
The claim is a bit specious, as you can explain away ‘Hari Puttar,’ but there are others would have a better case to make against Mirchi Movies - the makers of The Comedy of Terrors, the 1964 film about a murderous undertaker starring Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone, which you can watch online for free in its entirety right here on Fancast!
