As reported by the L.A. Times, it’s the end of an era as MTV pulls the plug on TRL, the groundbreaking live video rundown series (FKA True Request Live) that broke all the rules and the musical stars who made them. Over its 10 year run the show stirred controversy, made the careers of some fresh-faced voices and spawned a truckload of spin-off wannabes.

The show probably could have sailed on under its own momentum, but MTV has moved on to the next round of eyeball sucking programs, the Celebreality show. With successes like “The Hills“, “MTV Cribs” and steady favorite “The Real World” the days of Pop Star breaking, making and breaking again will be relegated to lesser outfits and sister channels.

But it was a great run. Remember Mariah Carey just before her “Glitter” meltdown, wandering into camera range before her segment, glassy-eyed and stripping off her T? How about when Britney Spears made the move from Mouseketeer to Catholic School Dream Date with “Baby One More Time?” And who can forget Carson Daly? Well, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.

The show will close down for good on an undisclosed date in November with a two-hour Saturday special, so get your last fix in soon.
