Jon Hamm Loses Emmy, Wins SNL Hosting Gig

You just lost the Emmy Award! What are you going to do now? “I’m going to SNL!”
Jon Hamm is no worse for wear after his Emmy upset loss to Bryan Cranston for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. New York Magazines’s Culture Vulture reports that Don Draper’s alter-ego will be the host for Saturday Night Live on October 25.
Hamm was considered a certainty for the win by virtually everybody who weighed in on the subject (including Fancast.) But Cranston pulled off the surprise of the night by beating out the “Mad Men” ad executive in his role as burnt out Science teacher turned meth lab alchemist. Although the series “Breaking Bad” was not a ratings heavyweight, and was hampered by the Writer’s strike, critical acclaim for the offbeat show, and Cranston’s bravura performance as Walt White turned the tide in his favor.
There’s no word yet on who will play Betty Draper, (January Jones) Don’s long suffering wife. But the smart money is on Kristen Wiig who has really been moving up to center stage lately at Studio 8H. She’s also currently winning raves for her comedic turn as an inept surgeon in Ricky Gervais‘ new flick “Ghost Town” in theaters now.
Amy Poehler should be out of the running by then, unless she plays the part behind a podium, as she did in the Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton skit from the debut episode. Amy is so pregnant, she’s about to leave the show for good.
Musical guest will be Coldplay.
