Inkheart

With a stellar cast of British actors supporting Brendan Fraser and Eliza Bennett, Iain Softley’s Inkheart looks to be a fairy tale brought straight out of an episode of Reading Rainbow, or perhaps a Perry Bible Fellowship comic, but it is spawned from Cornelia Funke’s Inkworld trilogy, the last of which is due to be released in bookstores next month.

Fraser plays Mortimer Folchart, the father of young Meggie (Bennett), and theirs is the power to magically bring the characters from the books they read into the real world, and this proves dangerous when a villain named Capricorn (Andy Serkis) emerges to threaten the waking world by twisting Mo’s power to his own ends. Paul Bettany is Dustfinger, a fire-eater who desperately wants to return to the fictional world he sprang from, while Sienna Guillory plays Meggie’s mother, who has been transported into the book from reality. Helen Mirren is Meggie’s great aunt and an avid book collector, while Jim Broadbent stars as the author of the book from which these characters have sprung.
