Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd in Ghostbusters

So much for the notion that the upcoming Ghostbusters video game, reuniting nearly everybody from the original cast (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson) to voice their characters, serving as the otherwise-impossible Ghostbusters 3. Now it seems that vets from The Office, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, have been commissioned to write a script for an actual theatrical version - one that passes the torch to another team of spectre-zappers. In this case, Aykroyd’s dream is to interest Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow in the project.

Ramis recently directed next summer’s Year One, which was produced by Apatow and written by this same screenwriting team, which is probably why Aykroyd is feeling good about the prospects. Nobody else has signed on for anything, of course, until there’s a script ready, but it sure as hell is an interesting idea. Just imagine Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel and Craig Robinson as Ghostbusters, being trained by the original crew. It could be glorious.
