Sean Connery stars as “Barley” Scott Blair, an alcoholic book editor reluctantly attending a dealer show in Russia when he suddenly finds himself caught up in CIA business. It seems agent Russell Sheridan (Roy Scheider) and his team have intercepted a package intended for him from a book editor named Katya (Michelle Pfeiffer) containing information that reveals that the Russian nuclear threat is an empty lie, which could end the Cold War instantly. But why is Katya sending this stuff to Blair? British Intelligence then sends Blair to meet this Katya to try and determine whether or not the notebooks she sent him are the real deal or if this is just more spy business at work.
