Michael J. Fox appears on the cover of PEOPLE Magazine this week and, despite suffering from Parkinson’s disease, he’s lost none of the zest for life and the sparkle that made him famous since the day he stepped in front of the TV cameras for the first time.

Speaking out about his life a decade after the symptoms of the illness first appeared, Fox, 47, says “based on how I feel now, I’ll be okay for at least 10 more years.” And he doesn’t let his condition get in the way of raising his 4 kids with wife of 20 years Tracy Pollan and helming the foundation bearing his name, which has so far raised $140 million dollars to fight the disease.

In fact, the actor says that having Parkinson’s “is part of an amazing life.” And it’s not “an otherwise amazing life, it’s part of what makes my life amazing.”

And what an amazing life it’s been. After disclosing his illness in 1998, Fox bravely soldiered on as the lead in Spin City playing Mike Flaherty, Spin Doctor to the fictional Mayor of NYC. More recently he has appeared on Scrubs and Boston Legal as characters suffering from physical disorders like OCD and lung cancer.

But it was his role as “Young Republican” Alex P. Keaton in the show Family Ties that first launched the appealing, versatile actor as a teen heartthrob and lead to spectacular success in the “Back To The Future” movies.

Look for the magazine to hit newsstands on Wednesday, but in the meantime you can enjoy this inspiring husband and father with full length episodes of Michael J. Fox in the role that made him a household name.
