Watch a Movie on Fancast: “The Milagro Beanfield War”

In 1988, Robert Redford gave us The Milagro Beanfield War, a movie that tells the tale of a heroic Hispanic community by the name of Milagro, New Mexico, that mounts a resistance against the expansion of a high-end housing development that borders them. It couldn’t have been done without the luck of a poor farmer by the name of Joe Mondragon (Chick Vennera), who happens to come across a source of free water that circumvents the developers, and Charlie Bloom (John Heard), a former activist who convinces the townsfolk to stand firm against the businessmen seeking to destroy their farms, despite their simmering tensions. Of course, the developers don’t take this lying down, but every attempt to bully Mondragon, including private dick Kyril Montana (Christopher Walken), results in lucky breaks that keep the movement alive. Or perhaps it’s more than luck - ‘milagro’ is the Spanish word for ‘miracle,’ after all. Also starring Daniel Stern, Melanie Griffith, M. Emmet Walsh, Ruben Blades, Sonia Braga and James Gammon.
