The Crow

Stephen Norrington, who hasn’t made a film since the disaster that was The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - a film which incidentally marked the end of Sean Connery’s career as well - will be making a comeback by writing and directing a revamp of The Crow, the emo-goth-action franchise that was made legendary in 1994 thanks to the dark mystery surrounding the tragic accidental death of its breakout star Brandon Lee on the set. He made his initial splash with the first Blade movie, so he’s no stranger to jumpy-kicky dark-bloody action movies. He’s got a very different take on James O’Barr’s source material, though, than Alex Proyas did on the first Crow film. “Whereas Proyas’ original was gloriously gothic and stylized, the new movie will be realistic, hard-edged and mysterious, almost documentary-style,” he said. That certainly is the new trend, and that should be a good way of minimizing the somewhat self-indulgent moping of O’Barr’s original comic work.
