Emma Thompson

Emma Thompson, currently starring in a low-key romance called Last Chance Harvey, is also writing a new adaptation of the classic musical My Fair Lady, which in itself was an adaptation of Pygmalion. She’s already got Keira Knightley signed on to the role of the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle, and she’s hoping to get Hugh Laurie to play the role of Henry Higgins, the man who makes the bet with Colonel Pickering that he’ll be able to turn the low-born woman into a high society dame. Yet the choice will not be hers, as she’s only handling the screenwriting duties, and a director has yet to be found.

Of course, there will be inevitable comparisons to Audrey Hepburn’s classic version of My Fair Lady. Here’s a clip to remember it by.
