The twice-canceled show, Family Guy, has grown into perhaps one of the most popular animated cartoons in the adult cartoon genre. Infamous for its notoriously risqué humor, the show about a bumbling dad, his moronic family and his talking dog & baby isn’t afraid to go where even The Simpsons and South Park doesn’t tread.

So it’s safe to assume that the FG spin-off series, The Cleveland Show, will be just as controversial. Except this time, the bumbling dad will be Cleveland Brown, Peter’s black and newly-divorced best friend, and his brand new family: his high school sweetheart wife and their rambunctious kids Roberta, Rallo and Cleveland Jr.

Oh, and also his neighbors: two cranky bears voiced by Seth McFarlane and Arianna Huffington. That’s right–the political blogger as…a bear.

Does the fact that the show focuses on black characters signify something deeper and more intellectually in tune with today’s culture? “It doesn’t really occur to you that they’re black or white,” said McFarlane at a press event this week. “They’re just interesting characters. It is, for the most part, right in step with the Obama era.”
