According to the NY Post the original creator of “Gilligan’s Island” is finally bringing the iconic series to the silver screen.

Sherwood Schwartz, a TV producer for nearly fifty years, has told TV Guide that plans for the big screen remake of the show are underway, with casting calls being sent out around Hollywood. So far there’s a nibble from Michael Cera, the eternal teen nebbish from “Arrested Development” (maybe that’s why he’s so busy?) as Gilligan, but the big news is Schwartz is trying mightily to land Beyonce Knowles for the part of Ginger, the glamorous Hollywood starlet who packs an entire wardrobe for a “3 hour tour” of the coast around Catalina.

Ever since the beginning of the current trend to bring back classic TV shows as feature films (arguably Star Trek broke the mold, but Batman got the big balls of money rolling) the exploits of the seven stranded castaways has been eagerly awaited by die-hard fans of the show. With the box office success (but not necessarily rave reviews) of virtually every remade popular show of the period, it’s time for our “‘lil buddy” to make a splash in the big time as well.

But it will have to go a long way to quash whispered rumors that the show has been redlighted more than once because most people are much more nostalgic over the theme song rather than the series itself.

Time to prove em all wrong Skipper!
