Ben Affleck’s “Arizona Project”

There was once talk that Ben Affleck’s sophomore directorial effort would be the heist flick The Town, but now it seems he’s heading towards the weightier subject matter in The Arizona Project. It tells the story of newspaper reporter Don Bolles, whose efforts to expose the massive mob activity in Phoenix in 1976 got him killed, but also prompted an unprecedented convergence of journalists coming in to finish the work he left behind. It sounds like the kind of crusader film the politically-minded Affleck could really sink his teeth into, although the fact that the script was written by Sheldon Turner, who wrote horror-flick revamps and Adam Sandler’s version of The Longest Yard, has to make one wonder a little bit.
You remember Affleck’s directorial debut, of course - the acclaimed Gone Baby Gone.
