Preacher

Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon’s controversial and over-the-top graphic novel series Preacher has been in development hell for years, going through many permutations - movie, HBO series, and back to movie again. Revolutionary Road’s Sam Mendes was attached to the project, but he recently clarified that he’s still waiting for a script before he signs on. But he does sound really excited about the possibilities.

“I think it’s absolutely brilliant. It’s a gripping story, fantastic characters, great visual landscape. It mixes supernatural and real worlds brilliantly… it’s funny, and it’s absolutely, completely blasphemous, possibly even sacrilegious I would say. Which might be a dangerous thing to take on.”

Uh, Sam? “Possibly even sacrilegious” is one hell of an understatement. Mendes is no stranger to comic book adaptations, by the way. He did well with Road To Perdition, starring Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law and Daniel Craig.
