Kline, Holmes, Dano and Reilly Join “Extra Man”

Kevin Kline has stepped up to play a highbrow escort for rich widows in The Extra Man, a comedy from American Splendor directors Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. Paul Dano of There Will Be Blood is also on board as the young aspiring playwright that Kline forms a mentor-student bond with, and Katie Holmes and John C. Reilly have also joined the cast.
American Splendor is the Sundance hit that told the story of Harvey Pekar adapted from his rumpled, funny and bleak graphic novels about the mundane aspects of blue collar life. Check it out to get a sense of the kind of aesthetic they may bring to this new project.
Of course, Berman and Pulcini also directed Scarlett Johansson in The Nanny Diaries, so it might lean more in this direction.
