Joaquin Phoenix may have retired from acting and become supremely strange and/or intentionally hilarious in an Andy Kaufman sort of way, but he left behind some compelling dramatic work. Here, he plays a man torn between two different women - one is stunning and volatile with a life of dramatic emotion and untouchability (Gwyneth Paltrow) and the other is beautiful, down-to-earth, sensitive and sensible and wants a future with him (Vinessa Shaw). How can a man choose between two women he loves? Will he even have to?
