Not content with a reputation as one of hsi generation’s finest actors, Joaquin Phoenix added another distinction to his resume two nights ago as one of David Letterman’s weirdest guests ever. Phoenix gave one-word answers, stuck his gum on Letterman’s desk, and wondered whether the host gave his audience nitrous.

But was Phoenix, who is reputedly giving up acting to pursue a career as a rap artist, the strangest guest Dave has ever had? During the interview, Letterman actually apologized to Farrah Fawcett, whose memorable daffiness a few years ago put her in the weird guest Hall of Fame. Other contenders include Crispin Glover and Andy Kaufman.
