Here’s what’s opening in selected cities this weekend, and as Dave Letterman always says, we just pray to God that your city has been selected.


The Stoning of Soraya M.
A powerful drama that has become extremely relevant in the wake of the turmoil in Iran, accentuating the importance of getting the reality of the situations in this isolated society out to the world. It’s the story of Zahra (Academy Award Nominee Shohreh Aghdashloo) a brave Iranian woman caught up in a deadly conspiracy who takes a chance on trusting an outsider journalist to get the truth brought to light when it is being stifled by the people in her remote village.


The Hurt Locker
Jeremy Renner is Staff Sgt. William James, who takes over the Army’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Squad in Baghdad and proceeds to startle his men (Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty) with his apparent disregard for protocol and safety - but it might all be a carefully crafted illusion. Also starring Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, David Morse and Evangeline Lilly.


Cheri
Rupert Friend is the son of a courtesan who retreats into a fantasy world when he is forced to end his relationship with a stunning older woman (Michelle Pfeiffer) who taught him everything he knows about love.


Surveillance
A spooky crime thriller from director Jennifer Lynch, the daughter of the legendary visionary David Lynch. Bill Pullman and Julia Ormond star as FBI agents on the trail of a serial killer with the help of three of his potential victims. Also starring Pell James, Billy Burke, Michael Ironside, Cheri Oteri and French Stewart.
