Paula Abdul Recants – Admits Painkiller Addiction…or Did She?
UPDATE:
Paula Abdul said on WKQI’s Mojo in the Morning radio show today that the quotes in the Ladies Home Journal article referenced below are fabricated…
“It was very stressful for me to hear that and to be quoted saying something I never said,” she explains. “I’ve never checked into a rehab clinic. I’ve never been addicted or abused drugs, and I’ve never been addicted or abused alcohol. I’ve never even been drunk in my life.”
What could possibly be going on in this woman’s mind? Why on earth would Ladies Home Journal, one of the most respected magazines in publication today regarding journalistic integrity, make these direct quotes up?
We understand an official statement from Abdul – and no doubt from LHJ – will be coming later today.
It just gets better and better.

Directly contradicting what she told ABC’s ‘Nightline’ earlier this month, Paula Abdul has admitted to a pretty hardcore pill addiction – about as hardcore as it gets.
“I could have killed myself,” Abdul, 46, tells this month’s issue of Ladies’ Home Journal. “Withdrawal – it’s the worst thing. I was freezing cold, then sweating hot, then chattering and in so much pain. It was excruciating.”
“At my very core,” she concludes, “I did not like existing the way I had been.”
Apparently Abdul, who is slated to preform her new single “I’m Just Here for the Music” – on ‘American Idol‘ tonight, regained her memory along with her sobriety as last month the controversial ‘Idol’ judge told ‘Nightline:’
“I’ve never been addicted to any prescription drugs. I’ve never been drunk. I’ve worked my whole life. And you can check my medical records. There is nothing like that. I was never on Oxycontin or Vicodin or anything like that. I was on nerve medicine and anti-inflammatories.”
At the height of her treatment, Abdul says she wore a patch that delivered a pain medication about 80 times more potent than morphine and took regular shots of Lidocaine
to temporally relieve her symptoms. It was the treatment, Abdul explains, that often left her sleepless and caused her to “get weird.”
How did Abdul acquire this life-threatening addiction?
She told the magazine that said she suffered a series of a injuries that caused her debilitating pain – including a cheerleading accident when she was 17.
After becoming a pop sensation with the 1988 album “Forever Your Girl,” Abdul broke her leg on-stage rehearsing in 1991; in 1992 she sustained a neck injury in a car accident and in 1993, there was the plane crash in an Iowa cornfield that left her partially paralyzed, requiring 15 spinal surgeries.
Finally, Abdul checked herself into the La Costa Resort and Spa, in Carlsbad, California, last Thanksgiving to defeat her inappropriate use of the medication.
