Fancast got the opportunity to chat with pop star Kimberly Cole, an expressive vocalist with a degree from UCLA. Aside from performing along side the infamous Katy Perry she’s also landed a role on an upcoming episode of Joss Whedon’s new smash hit Dollhouse.

So you are putting your album together right now?

Yes, well we have an EP coming out on the 27th with five songs and one bonus song and a couple of extras on there. It’s some of the stuff I’ve been working on over the past five months but overall I have over thirty songs recorded.

You are also going to be on an episode of Dollhouse?

Yeah it was so much fun shooting it. I was pretty much playing myself. It was kind of like the premise of The Bodyguard. It’s sort of like the pop singer being stalked by a crazy fan. It’s so fun because my music is being used as part of the episode. And that episode will air on February 27th.

Does Eliza Dushku’s character play your bodyguard?

She plays a background singer who has to come in to be a body guard because one of the other backup singers got caught on fire so she steps in. It’s a great show by Joss Whedon.

What was it like to work with Joss?

Actually, the funny thing is he wrote the script but his brother and his partner from the Sing Along Blog were working on this episode. So I got to work with him a little bit and then his brother. They were totally awesome. It’s so exciting being a part of something with so much enthusiasm because they have so many fans. I thought it was awesome.

How did you land the gig for Dollhouse?

The story is that they actually first chose my song ‘Superstar (Smash it) which is off the EP. We did that one hit song because that was the one I performed on stage. So they ended up choosing my song and that was so exciting. And then from there they actually booked me as an actor on the show.

Would you prefer to do more acting or singing?

It’s funny because for me being an artist you kind of have that wanting to encompass everything. Music defiantly is number one. I grew up roller skating and the reason I loved it so much was because of the music. But I would be one hundred percent open to be an actress. I actually majored in theatre at UCLA so I defiantly have that background. But I love the fact that with music you are acting, singing, and performing. If something else comes by way I will be very excited in the future but for now I’m digging the music.

Would you ever go back to Dollhouse? Is there any chance of you reprising that role in the future?

Maybe, I mean each episode has a different scenario. The whole series follows Eliza Dushku’s character and in each episode she gets her mind erased. So the main premise of the show is that she starts remembering who she is. And in the doll house you’re not supposed to. You’re supposed to have your mind erased. Having the chance to have my music in the series is great. So that defiantly could happen and they’re also going to release my song ‘Superstar’ through Fox and through Dollhouse.

How do you feel about people saying that the show has already dug it’s own grave being in that Friday night spot?

I know! It’s so sad. When I was on set it was suppose to air on Mondays so everyone was so excited. It was after 24 or something. It was a really good spot. Then after we shot it about three weeks later my dad actually called me and was like hey it’s on Friday night. So I had dinner with one of the musical directors of the show and they were like so depressing. So hopefully people are staying home on Friday nights and going out less and it will catch on. Last night I was watching American Idol and I saw a commercial for it so that was good. Hopefully it catches on and doesn’t get canceled. It’s a great show so it shouldn’t but they defiantly didn’t get the best time slot.

So what else are you working on?

So much, I’ve been working on my live show. We have some great things in the works as far as opening acts for shows. My EP (Extended Play) came out January 27th and actually two of the songs from the episode are on it. And the Dollhouse episode airs Feb. 27th.
