Jenna Morasca: The Wisdom Of Alternative Therapies
[Here's the latest in 'Survivor' winner Jenna Morasca's continuing series on her supporting role as a caregiver in longtime boyfriend and fellow 'Survivor' winner Ethan Zohn's battle with cancer.]
When Ethan was diagnosed with cancer everyone went into super over drive. I am sure many people who are dealing with a family member who has a serious illness can relate to this situation. Every spouse, significant other, family member, friend and high school lunch buddy wants to impart their wisdom. And with that wisdom comes a different method that can help heal and possibly cure the cancer.
It can be very overwhelming and difficult to filter all this information. Should I become a vegetarian, should I only eat raw foods, do I meditate each day. Oh my… I’m too negative, I need anti depressants, I should chug fish oils, I NEED to buy a juicer! All of these things can pile up to a height where you end up feeling like you are not doing enough to protect your health and emotional well being.
Granted I feel horrible for Ethan and want him to benefit from all this, but the caregiver, needs to have this benefit as well. Being a caregiver might be one of the hardest tasks a human can take on. Being the rock, provider, emotions stabilizer, and human shield all at the same time is not only draining but potentially scarring for life if not properly attended too.
So, needless to say when Ethan was diagnosed we were FLOODED with emails, texts, tweets, posts and courier pigeoned from various people explaining which healing books or technique was best for the mind (we have the body taken care of with the arsenal of chemo he is getting).
While I very much appreciate everyone wanting to share their wisdom it can be overwhelming at times to find out which path is right for you and only you.
After sifting through all the options, I decided to take the advice of a good friend and visit Aleta St. James. Aleta St. James is an internationally renowned energy healer, life coach, best selling author, and more. Aleta does private sessions to release old resistance and shift out of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, addictions, infertility, and insecurity at a cellular level.
Aleta has been doing her work on people for over 30 years and comes with loads of recommendations (my friend promised she changed his life). She has been featured on the cover of New York magazine as a forerunner in the alternative healing field, in The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Mirabella and has appeared on hundreds of television and radio programs, including The Today Show, NYC’s Dateline, Good Morning America and CNN. I thought why not give it a try!?
I have always been a believer in mind and body and the power of positive thinking, but I have to admit recently I have fallen into a dingy place. My mind is starting to shift into a negative space so I figured this is the right time to visit Aleta.
I know everyone is not a believer in energy and mind/ body, but I encourage you to read this blog with an open mind. It’s important for me to be honest and let everyone know there is no hidden agenda here. I just want to share my wonderful experience with Aleta.
I promise, no matter what your opinion on the topic, you will be enlightened. While I don’t feel there is one spiritual path everyone should take I think it’s our responsibility to be the best person we can be, and sometimes we need a spiritual leader to help us attain that- enter Aleta!
When I first entered Aleta’s room to start the session, I could instantly feel her warm healing spirit. I immediately felt comfortable and safe around her. To begin healing, some personal history needed to be divulged and I was happy to discuss my long and torturous connection with cancer.
What Aleta made me realize was that I was harboring some pent up negative feelings regarding my mother and all my experiences dealing with my mother. I need to digress for a second and since we are all blog-friends here; it’s about time I tell you my mom’s name.
My mom’s name is Carla and she was my best friend in the whole world. While I yell from my megaphone everyday about how strong I am, and how at peace I am with Carla’s passing, there may be a crack in that armor. I’m aware and have mourned her passing, but there are some instances where things relating to her creep up when not appropriate.
On a daily basis, how often do our experiences from the past influence our current experiences in a bad way? Probably more often than not, and Aleta helps so much to clarify this level of understanding. Aleta likes to find people’s energy, unblock it, and then make us realize how to harness our best self. I am an Aquarius, which to Aleta means I am the sign related to air.
Bingo! She hit the nail on the head. She tells me that I always want to float around, have space, and be airy! SO TRUE and I’m not even blonde anymore. I am always floating around trying to tend to everyone and be free while at the same time enjoying some space.
I can’t get into every detail of the session because this journey needs to be somewhat private too, but I did want to share some special moments. And lets face it some aspects of my life are just boring!
What I will share is that I left the session with a greater feeling of hope, renewal, and happiness. I was starting down a path to my best self. I love my life, but I also know this is not the BEST self I can be- there is lots for me to learn about myself.
As caretakers we feel drained when caring for another, and in order to take care of someone else, we need to take care of ourselves at the same time. Aleta made me feel like I can overcome this rough road and come out on the other end a better person- and she has a clear and logical plan to help facilitate this journey.
So, no matter what you believe in, why wouldn’t you want to have faith in something like this! I am very excited for my journey with Aleta and I will share it here with you.
If you are reading this and relate to anything I am saying or know in your heart there is a better path than the one you are on now, explore these spiritual options. If you are in then NYC area I demand ☺ you go see Aleta for a session (or grab one of her books or DVD’s).
I guarantee you will bounce out of the room ready to tackle the world. Aleta’s website is http://aletastjames.com/
Until next time…
