Once and for all, does Charlie Gibson have something against Diane Sawyer?

Last September, Gibson, 66, announced he is stepping down as anchor of ‘World News’ and the network’s news division quickly announced Sawyer, 63, as his replacement.

Almost immediately reports surfaced that Gibson disapproved and preferred the host of Sunday morning’s ‘This Week,’ George Stephanopoulous.

Now come more rumblings, this time courtesy of NY Post’s Page Six gossip column, that Gibson still has a problem with Sawyer. “Charlie has always given Diane the stink eye. He bad-mouths her openly and often,” a source told the paper.

But Gibson went on the record with the Post, telling the paper all the talk about a rift between he and Sawyer is bunk.

“This notion that there is some kind of enmity that exists between Diane and me is just silly. We worked together for over seven years, side-by-side…We laughed together, cried together (particularly during the time after 9/11), and developed a strong mutual bond.

“I have tremendous respect and fondness for Diane. Diane and I have talked a number of times about the transition and what this job entails. We’re having lunch this week to continue the conversation.”

The question that remains is who will replace Sawyer on ‘GMA’? Insiders have pegged Stephanopoulous as the frontrunner.

What do you think of him? Or is there someone else better suited to work alongside Robin Roberts?
