Simon Cowell’s “Mr. Mean” persona seems to be a thing of the past. But, is it his newfound engagement to longtime ‘American Idol‘ makeup artist Mezghan Hussainy or something of the greener persuasion?

“Is it love or is it because he just got a billion dollar deal for ‘X Factor’?,” jokes Miles Siggins to Fancast. “Is it for love or is it for the money or is it for the love of money? I don’t know,” confessed the ‘American Idol’ stylist and friend of Hussainy at today’s Fox Mid-Season junket in L.A.

But in all seriousness, Siggins says, “He seems really happy with her. I have to be honest, though. I was kind of surprised. I knew they were dating, but I was surprised that they got engaged [so quickly]. But she’s great. I guess he just made his mind up. And they are really happy together.”

While Cowell might have joked on ‘The Tonight Show’ that he would get married “within the next 10 years,” Siggins says he hears the big day will be this September. Siggins also dished that the engagement ring cost over $400,000 (a bit lower than the reported estimate of $750,000) and that he doesn’t expect to be part of the ceremony but another ‘Idol’ pal is. “I’m sure Ryan [Seacrest] will be part of it somehow.”

Cowell’s rep would not comment, saying, “Simon’s private life is his private life.”
