Matt Giraud held the bottom spot in last week’s power rankings, so it was only natural that he was the ‘American Idol‘ finalist who said goodbye this week.

So, where does that leave us?

This week’s results show was definitely an eye-opener, as Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey were the top two and Adam Lambert and Kris Allen slipped to the bottom. How would that effect this week’s power rankings? In a different way than you might assume, actually.

1. Kris Allen (Last Week: #2)
He’s been knocking on the door for a few weeks now, and with just three weeks left before the finale, Kris sneaks by Adam Lambert for the first time all season. Kris got a ringing endorsement from Jamie Foxx, who called him his “Number 1,” and I agree. After starting the season as a completely unheralded, virtually anonymous voice in the bunch, Kris has come at each of his last several performances with a genuine, original approach.

2. Adam Lambert (Last Week: #1)
His stay outside of the top spot shouldn’t last long, in all honesty. Adam has obviously been a solid performer all season and is still the clear front-runner to win the whole thing. But he showed some vulnerability this week, and it will be interesting to see how he bounces back on a theme night seems hand-crafted for him. Adam’s YouTube fans might be waiting and hoping for his rendition of Queensryche’s “Anybody Listening?”

3. Allison Iraheta (Last Week: #3)
Allison actually keeps getting better and more confident every week, and this week’s theme is also made for her. She’s picking the right time to step up her game, and the fact that she’s the only girl left in the competition can’t hurt. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether she can outlast at least two of the guys to land a spot in the finale.

4. Danny Gokey (Last Week: #4)
Wednesday’s dramatic result just might have hurt Danny the most. Adam and Kris fans will have a new fire under them this week, so Danny will have to do something extra special this week to get some new voters on his side. That said, his performance this week was a good start.
