Christina Applegate, the 36-year-old star of Samantha Who, has been diagnosed with cancer. Her rep confirmed on Saturday that she “was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery.” Applegate, who got her start as a racy teen on Married With Children, was recently hit by news that her ex boyfriend, Lee Grivas, had been found dead of a drug overdose. Applegate plans to maintain her regular shooting schedule on Samantha Who? while undergoing treatment, reports E! News. Applegate’s mother, singer-actress Nancy Priddy, is a breast cancer survivor who was first diagnosed with Applegate was seven years old. Applegate is still scheduled to appear with Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Charlize Theron and others on the Stand Up to Cancer telethon scheduled to air concurrently on ABC, CBS and NBC on Sept. 5 at 8PM. Applegate, whose latest project is the Rainn Wilson film, The Rocker, has been involved in raising funds and awareness to fight breast cancer. In addition to news of her plight, the Web, including Stupidcelebrities.net, the Socialitelife and others across the web, extended good wishes to the actress, as does this site.
