John McCain blew off an appearance on the David Letterman Show during the campaign, but was back to make amends with late night, by appearing on Leno yesterday and playing along with the jokes. The Senator was funny and relaxed, and when the talk turned to Sarah Palin, McCain couldn’t have been more gracious. When asked about Sarah “going rogue” McCain chided, “Did you expect mavericks to stay on message?”

How did he feel about some of his staff complaining about his VP pick? “These things happen in campaigns,” he said. “I’m just very proud to have [had] Sarah Palin and her wonderful family.” He also confirmed that he would not be running for president again.
