Video of the Day: Christina Applegate Tells Of Undergoing Double Mastectomy: “This Is The Choice I Made”

Bravo to Christina Applegate, who this morning told GMA’s Robin Roberts that she is clear and clean of cancer after undergoing a double mastectomy three weeks ago. It takes courage for any woman to undergo the procedure, and Applegate revealed that as well as a surplus of character when she explained that while cancer was only found in one breast, she felt it was best to have both breasts removed “My decision, after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical and the one that was going to work for me was to have a bilateral mastectomy,” she said. “I didn’t want to go back to the doctors every four months for testing and squishing and everything,” she continued. “I just wanted to kind of get rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made and it was a tough one.” According to Eonline, The Samantha Who? actress said she will be undergoing breast reconstruction sugery over the next eight months. “I’m going to have the best boobs in the nursing home,” she joked. “And you know, I’m going to have cute boobs till I’m 90.” Read more of Eonline’s story here.

Typically when stars make such admissions, it’s to take control of their story before it’s splashed all over the supermarket by one of the tabloids, and this seems to have been the case with Applegate, too. The Jossip website reports that Star was about to break the story. GMA’s Roberts added, “She wanted to dispel some false reporting that was out there. She wasn’t really ready to go public yet. But there was some false reporting that was out that she was going to undergo chemotherapy, which she is not. There were other false reports saying that she was putting off chemotherapy to start a family, that she wanted to get pregnant. She does want to have a family one day, but that is not the reason she made her choice.”
