When we left off, Grey’s Anatomy was attempting to see just how high and how fast it could jump the shark. Let’s find out if they break any records.

Meredith tells us that the theme of the week is wishes. A death row prisoner, Dunn (Eric Stoltz), who has been stabbed, needs surgery. Meredith, Christina, Derek and Owen are assigned the case. Meredith and Christina are still feuding. An x-ray reveals that the toothbrush he was stabbed with is lodged in his spine. He begs them to leave it in so he can get a stay of execution due to paralysis. His execution is a week away. He reveals he was stabbed because he was fighting with a friend. An anvil lands on my toe.

The MRI reveals Dunn also has brain contusions. Derek denies him additional morphine because he thinks he deserves to suffer. Meredith gives him more painkillers. Dunn tells her and Christina that he slit a woman’s throat after fantasizing about it for a long time. Then he killed several more women. In the OR, Meredith reveals she gave Dunn morphine. Owen invites Christina to have a drink. She declines, saying she can’t deal with his hot and cold behavior. Derek tells Meredith his father was murdered for his watch. That’s why he has no sympathy for criminals. Wow. Meredith seems a lot less worked up about this revelation than I am. You’d think she’d stop thinking about her petty problems and focus on helping the man she loves deal with his traumatic day. But Meredith’s self-absorption knows no bounds. So she barely reacts. Then Derek tries to make her feel better about her rift with Christina by dancing like Elaine Benes. Seriously.

Sloane tells Lexie they can never sleep together again because Derek doesn’t want them to be together. Sadie continues to semi-flirt with Callie. Callie convinces Sloane they should be each other’s sponsors to make sure they don’t sleep with interns. Sloane cracks first, chatting up Lexie at Joe’s. Because Grey’s is a lesbian-free zone.

George’s patient Margaret complains that this is the sixth bone she’s broken this year. She keeps yelling, “Come on!” at God. Maybe she has brittle bones. She turns out to have a benign thyroid tumor that’s causing all the problems. That’s the whole story. I guess the rumors about George being on his way out are true.

Bailey treats Jackson, a child who is a longtime patient with liver and bowel problems. His never before seen specialist Kenley dies while examining him. Jackson wants Alex to sign a form so he can get a gift from the Make a Wish foundation. He refuses because Jackson’s not dying. The Chief falls silent when Miranda tells him and locks himself in his office. The new doctor, a woman named Arizona, questions Jackson’s course of treatment. When they operate, Arizona realizes Jackson needs a transplant and should have been on the list a year ago. Bailey complains about Arizona to the Chief. The Chief points out that she initially hated all the attendings. Bailey needs to learn to work with her. The Chief tells Derek that Kenley was a jerk. He’s upset because the hospital’s falling apart. Wait until he finds out about Denny. Bailey wants a second opinion. Arizona tells her to focus on Jackson instead of her issues with her. Bailey tells Jackson he needs a transplant. Alex signs the Make A Wish form. The Chief leaves his office. Maybe he’ll start to do his job now.

Izzie is still seeing Dead Denny. By now we all know why. Get on with it! Izzie comes clean with Alex about Denny. Alex doesn’t think it’s a big deal, believing she’s just imagining Denny. Izzie explains about the ghost sex. For some reason, Alex still thinks it’s amusing. They hook up and Denny disappears. until Alex leaves. She tells Alex she loves him. Alex makes her a birthday cake. She blows out the candle.
