The Amazing Race Blog: Kynt & Vyxsin’s Pink And Black Blast - PARTY IN THE PINK CITY OF INDIA
**********************************************************************************

Hello Everyone!

Last night’s Episode #6 of The Amazing Race took our teams through the colorful (and sometimes chaotic) city of Jaipur, India! We also have coverage of your chance to MEET and BIKE-RIDE with host Phil Keoghan! Let’s get started with today’s BLOG………….

**************************************************
EPISODE 6 —– THE PINK CITY OF INDIA
**************************************************

The show began with teams departing from the Pitstop in Siberia, en route to Jaipur, India. Phil explained that Jaipur is the capital of Rajastan, and is known as “The Pink City.” The name does have a story
behind it, as during the mid 1800’s, locals painted the entire city PINK in order to welcome the Prince of Wales. As you can probably guess, Phil’s little history lesson on Jaipur IMMEDIATELY caught our attention from the get-go! We have always loved Indian food and culture, but the fact that this country has a “Pink City” has us even more infatuated with this land.

Margie & Luke, being the first team to arriive at the Pitstop in the previous episode, were the first to depart. One by one, each team made their way to the airport and began booking their flights to Jaipur. As it turned out, every team booked the same final connecting flight to Jaipur, evening things out completely.

All seven teams arrived in Jaipur as the new day began. Christie & Jodi showed great intensity as they fled the airport onto the streets of Jaipur. Since the blondes were “saved from elimination” in the previous episode, courtesy of this season’s FIRST non-elimination leg, they knew that at some point in Jaipur they would be confronted with a SPEEDBUMP —– that is, a time-consuming task that ONLY they would have to complete.

The first clue of the day instructed the teams to travel by taxi to the Village of Dhula, where they would need to seek out the mystical Peepli Ka Pedh tree.

If we have learned one thing from past Amazing Races, a team is only as fast as their taxi driver! The first victims of the “taxi curse” were Mel & Mike. They selected a driver who had no clue how to get to Dhula. When the driver went to ask for directions, Mel & Mike attempted to “switch” to another taxi, but were unable because their backpacks were locked in their current taxi’s trunk. After the driver found directions, Mel & Mike were on their way…..now firmly in last place. Mel shouted at the driver to “Go Go Go!” but then corrected himself, realizing that the “race” was no excuse to treat others with disrespect.

Christie & Jodi lamented as their taxi driver stopped to get gas, and seemed to be moving very slowly………

As the teams rode to Dhula, many were overtaken by the sight of poverty in Jaipur. In a very emotional moment, Luke broke down and started crying. Redhead Jaime also shed tears as she noticed all of the stray animals that were hungry in the streets. Margie remarked that this drive really showed how lucky we all are here in America.

Lawyers Tammy & Victor were the first to arrive at the sacred Peepli Ka Pedh tree. They searched for the clue, finding a red phone with instructions to call a phone number to hear the next clue. The duo had trouble understanding what the man on the phone was saying, as he spoke with a very THICK Indian accent. In an ingenious move, Tammy & Victor fetched their cab driver and put HIM on the phone. The driver EASILY understood the instructions of the Indian operator, who instructed them to ride to Amber Fort! No other team thought to have their taxi driver listen to the phone instructions!

The other teams soon arrived at the tree and began searching for the clue, at first not noticing the instructions on the telephone!

Tammy & Victor soon arrived at Amber Fort and were confronted with a ROADBLOCK. In this week’s Roadblock, one team member had to use a set of traditional tools to fill up the feeding and watering areas for a group of hungry CAMELS. A judge would check to make sure the proper amount of hay and water had been transported, then the team would receive their next clue.

Victor volunteered to take the Roadblock, and began carrying hay [via a basket] from a huge hay-pile to the camel’s feeding area. This was no easy task, as it required going BACK AND FORTH between the pile and the feeding area numerous times, carrying the heavy hay. Once he had filled up the feeding area, Victor grabbed a bucket and did the same thing, this time going back and forth transporting water to the camels.

Soon after, the other teams began to arrive at Amber Fort. Kisha, Margie, Jaime, and Mel volunteered to tackle the Roadblock. This physically strenuous task took a great toll on the older Mel.

Victor completed the task and received the next clue, instructing the team to travel to Johri Bazar and find booth number 131 —– a Rajasthani puppet shop.

Mel continued to struggle as he and the other teams transported the water to the camels. Once he completed the “water part” of the task, Mel’s INGENUITY kicked in! The other teams at the Roadblock were using the buckets to now carry the hay, not noticing the much more efficient BASKETS. Mel took a moment to examine the available tools and noticed the basket, which he then wielded like a champion! With his basket and clear determination, Mel completed the Roadblock, launching himself and Mike from LAST PLACE to SECOND PLACE!!!!!

This moment was reminiscent of the Roadblock in Episode #2, when Mel’s patience at the PARAGLIDE paid off, as he sailed from the back of the pack to the lead.

Once again, the “old man” outsmarted them all and had us jumping out of our seats with surprise and excitement!

As Mel & Mike, sped away from the Roadblock in their taxi, Mark remarked “My dad SMOKED the Roadblock” to which Mel replied “Cause I got Hay Fever!” You just couldn’t script better improv one-liners than these!!!! Mel & Mike’s penchant for humor emerges time and time again this season, even in the most stressful and adverse of situations!!!

One by one, the other teams completed the Roadblock and began traveling to Johri Bazar. At this point, Christie & Jodi and stuntmen Michael & Mark were nearly tied in last place.

Tammy & Victor were the first to arrive at the Johri Bazar, where they discovered a DETOUR. The choice was: MOVERS or SHAKERS. In Movers, teams had to choose a bike loaded with barrels, pedal the bike over a mile to the Zorawar Singh Gate, and then search through the barrels to find a TINY metal elephant. In Shakers, teams had to put on dancer costumes and makeup, then go out in the streets dancing for tips until they accumulated 100 rupees.

Much to our personal delight, Tammy & Victor chose SHAKERS. They dressed up and hit the streets to dance for some cash! During this challenge, you could really see that Tammy & Victor were truly having FUN. In their day-to-day lives, these two are a part of a lucrative yet oftentimes stressful career —– LAW. It was great to watch them lose their inhibitions and just dance freely in the street, momentarily forgetting their “corporate careers” back home and just being silly with one another. Their enthusiasm and infectious energy paid off, as they earned 100 rupees in short time, receiving their final clue instructing them to the PITSTOP at Jaigur Fort.

***************************************************
TAMMY & VICTOR BACK IN FIRST PLACE
***************************************************

Tammy & Victor “made this Leg look easy” as they lept onto Phil’s Mat at the Jaigur Fort. For their victory, Phil rewarded the team with a pair of two ocean kayaks. This marked Tammy & Victor’s SECOND First Place victory. This was an incredible moment, as it truly BURIED once and for all the trainwreck they endured back in Transylvania.

Once again, the siblings not only outplayed the other 6 teams, but had FUN doing it. They took in the sights of India and bonded during the process. We salute the STELLAR performance of Tammy & Victor as they dominated the Leg in Jaipur India! If they can continue to play the game like they did in Jaipur, these two could easily be taking home the Million!

Back at the Roadblock, Mel & Mike, Kisha & Jen, Jaime & Cara, and Margie & Luke chose the DANCING option. Luke had a hard time with the dancing, however, as he was unable to hear the music due to his deafness. He never gave up, however, and followed his mother’s lead closely.

************************************************************
MAKE OR BREAK MOMENT FOR THE BLONDES
************************************************************

En route to the Roadblock, Christie & Jodi were confronted with their SPEEDBUMP. For the SPEEDBUMP, the blondes had to paint an elephant with festive designs. As they painted, Jodi reflected on the daughter she was missing as she raced. The duo completed the task quite efficiently and continued moving toward the Detour.

Back at the Detour, Cara & Jaime had a scary moment……after completing the dance challenge, their taxi was NO WHERE to be found. They searched frantically, finding their driver who had parked their cab far away from the Detour point. After Mel & Mike checked into the Pitstop in second place, three teams came barreling onto the Mat, nearly simultaneously: Kisha & Jen, Margie & Luke, and Cara & Jaime.

**********************************************************************
BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL: STUNTMEN VERSUS BLONDES
**********************************************************************

Stuntmen Mark & Michael were the only team to choose the MOVERS choice at the Detour….and man it was a HARD task. The bikes were over-loaded with heavy barrels……and searching through them for the tiny metal elephant was a game of needle-in-a-haystack.

As the stuntmen searched for the tiny metal elephant, the blondes took on the dancing challenge and “wiggled and giggled” toward the goal of 100 rupees.

The two remaining teams finished their respective Detours and it turned into a neck-and-neck CAB RACE for the finish line.

When the smoke cleared, it was our dear blondes who checked into the Mat in last place and were promptly eliminated.

*************************************
CHRISTIE & JODI ELIMINATED
*************************************

Sadly, Christie & Jodi never recovered from the loss of time they endured due to a lethal combination of a slow cab driver and the Speedbump task. The girls remarked that the “Race experience is priceless. You couldn’t pay a million dollars and have the same experience. It’s just this weird thing that has a huge effect on your life.”

Clearly, the Race strengthened the already solid friendship between Christie & Jodi. The adventure also galvanized Jodi to inspire her daughter: “I want her to know that anything she wants to do in life, she can do it. You find a way to make it happen.”

We applaud the blondes’ strong performance in the game overall. Even in the most stressful of moments, Jodi never forgot what matters more than any million dollars: her strong family bonds.

*******************************
FINAL ORDER OF FINISH
*******************************

1. Tammy & Victor
2. Mel & Mike
3. Kisha & Jen
4. Margie & Luke
5. Cara & Jaime
6. Mark & Michael
7. Christie & Jodi [ELIMINATED]

*******************************
OTHER TIDBITS TO NOTE
*******************************

*Tammy & Victor had a “perfect leg,” both competitively and emotionally. If they can remain this FOCUSED (yet FUN-LOVING) machine, the remaining 5 teams could be in serious trouble…….

*Early on we dubbed Mel & Mike “the comeback kids” —– and once again they live up to this moniker. Mel is a tenaciously TOUGH competitor, don’t let his sometimes “fragile” demeanor fool you.

*Kisha & Jen are turning up the heat, moving from 6th place in the last episode to 3rd in this one! These girls are the most ATHLETIC team still in the game.

*Make no mistake, Margie & Luke and Cara & Jaime are still strong friends and alliance-mates. If they continue to help each other out during moments of turmoil, they could overcome the threat of Tammy & Victor. We smell another U-Turn should a good chance arise…………

*Mark & Michael fell behind because of the DIFFICULTY of the Detour that they selected. All things considered, they completed the task effectively —– it was just unquestionably a tougher task than the Dancing choice.

*Looking over our Final 6 teams, one thing is for certain: it is ANYONE’S game at this point.

SPECIAL AMAZING RACE 14 CAST PARTY AT MIKE WHITE’S HOUSE
************************************************************************************

On the heels of Victor’s Amazing Race Cast Party (see last week’s BLOG), Mike White decided to throw a viewing-party at his house in Los Angeles!

That’s right, Mike & Mel White hosted a special party for cast, crew, and celebrity friends!

We were particularly excited about this party, as we had not had the chance to meet Mike & Mel at Victor’s previous cast party.

It is not an exaggeration to say that this was the most phenomenal “Amazing Race Get Together” of all time.

Not only were all 11 current teams in attendance, but numerous PAST winners of the Amazing Race, as well as the creators of the show itself.

Let’s recap this event is with photos!

Once again, the Season 14 cast amazed us. Mike & Mel put a great deal of work and love into this party…..and created one of the most special evenings in the show’s legacy.

This night was a celebration of the Amazing Race experience: from the creative minds that work diligently behind-the-scenes, to the teams who make us bite our nails week after week.

It was wonderful to spend one more evening with the Season 14 cast……

We want to give a special THANK YOU to Mike & Mel for making all of this possible!!!!!!!! What wonderful memories were made for everyone!!!
