Hello Everyone!

Last night’s episode #3 of The Amazing Race proved to be one of the wackiest in the history of the program. From a bone-jarring bike ride down a lengthy cobblestone trail, to the contestants jumping into the RING for some inter-gender wrestling, this episode proved to thrill! Let’s get started with today’s BLOG!

SWEET LOVE FROM THE ELIMINATED “HIPPIE HIVEMASTERS” - ANITA & ARTHUR
*************************************************************************************

This week, we received a SURPRISE package in the mail from one of our FAVORITE teams from the Amazing Race 13 - the eliminated “HIPPIE HIVEMASTERS” Anita & Arthur!

What were the contents you ask? Organic HONEY and BLUEBERRY JAM straight from their beehives and farmland in Eugene, Oregon!!!!

Ever since we first learned of their farm, we have been DYING to try out their delectable confectioneries! The honey was the FRESHEST we have ever tasted. We have actually used it in a wide variety of dishes, from Morning-Toast to a wonderful appetizer called Brie Bernadette. The blueberry jam was WONDROUS, with a naturally sweet flavor that you just can’t find in “store-bought” varieties!

We thank Anita & Arthur for their kindness in sharing their wonderful creations with us!!!!

NOTE FROM VYXSIN: Kynt’s sweet-tooth is insatiable. He absolutely adored these treats!

By the way, Anita & Arthur continue to WOW us with their fashion-sense….check out this pic below, it makes us smile!

Kynt & Vyxsin at the LA Comic Book & Sci-Fi Convention
*******************************************************************

This past Sunday, our day began with an appearance at the LA Comic Book & Sci-Fi Convention! The event was held at the Shrine Auditorium - the former venue of the Emmy Awards!

If you have never attended a “Con”, you are definitely missing out! A Comic/Sci-Fi con is a wonderful world of make-believe — full of creativity, theatricality, and the magic of imagination.

We met a great number of Amazing Race fans and enjoyed kidding around with them about our season, as well as the current one. We would like to share with you some photos from this latest event:

AMAZING RACE PARTY AT CARRIE’S IN LOS ANGELES
*****************************************************************

After the Con, we were off to the latest “Amazing Race Party!” We had the good fortune of enjoying this episode at the home of Carrie [and her husband Scott] in Los Angeles! We had corresponded via MySpace with Carrie since our season aired, but had yet to meet her and her family in person.

We arrived at Carrie’s and, to our delight, the outside of her house was very WELL-DECORATED for Halloween - with flashing lights, little bats, skeletons, pumpkins, and a VERY creepy spider!!!

Firstly, we enjoyed a wonderful vegetarian TACO dinner, prepared by Carrie!

After dinner, we met Carrie’s two wonderful little boys - Lennon and Marley.

NOTE FROM VYXSIN: Kynt’s eyes LIT UP when he noticed Lennon’s LIGHTSABERS. A duel quickly broke out between Kynt and Lennon, with the “first taste” of Carrie’s fresh-baked chocolate-chip cookies at stake!

When the dust cleared, we were left with TWO winded-and-worn-out Jedi Knights, who were ready to CRASH on the COUCH for the latest episode of the Amazing Race! On with the show!

Episode 3 - The DARK SIDE Descends
*********************************************

Teams departed from Brazil en route to La Paz, Bolivia. This area has the distinction of being 12,000 feet above sea level. What does that mean? Much THINNER air! If you don’t reside in this country, your lungs are probably NOT used to this —- and a mere light JOG can you leave you breathless and GASPING for air.

The first task for the teams was to travel to the historic statue of Simon Bolivar and to search the morning newspaper for their first clue. This was definitely a “deja-vu” moment for us, as our first task in Mumbai, India [in our season] was to search the “Times of India” newspaper for our next clue. Fratty Frat Friends Andrew & Dan proved to have the keenest eyes, as they found the clue first and raced into first place.

Teams soon found themselves confronted with a DETOUR CHOICE: Musical March or Bumpy Ride. In Musical March, teams needed to MAKE THEIR WAY BY FOOT to find a group of musicians, who would form into a band, who the team would then lead as they marched to the Plaza Abaroa. In Bumpy Ride, teams needed to MAKE THEIR WAY BY FOOT to Mercado de las Brujas, where they would then ride a very awkward wood crafted bicycle down a cobblestone trail to Plaza Abaroa. [Please note: we are overemphasizing "MAKE THEIR WAY BY FOOT" for a reason.]

It was at this moment that our beloved comic geeks Mark & Bill made a CRITICAL error. They jumped into a TAXI and shot off to the Mercado de las Brujas, whereas the Clue stated to “MAKE THEIR WAY BY FOOT.” Unbeknownst to our geeks, they had violated the clue and thus the rules of the Amazing Race game itself.

[Note to Readers: Did we not RANT on and on in last week's BLOG about the importance of READING THE DIRECTIONS?????!!!!!!]

As teams arrived at the Mercado, it became apparent just how PRIMITIVE these bikes were. They had NO BRAKES, NO SEAT CUSHION, and HORRENDOUS STEERING!

Watching the teams take the bone-rattling ride on those bikes, down the cobblestone trail was just surreal. It was one of the most intense “chase scenes” in the history of the program, as teams kept passing one another, and then subsequently falling behind. It was also one of the most PAINFUL tasks we had ever witnessed in the Race, as the cobblestone rattled, jerked, and jarred the contestants mercilessly.

The Fratty Frat Friends and “Blonde Ambition” Marisa & Brooke were the only two teams who decided AGAINST the bikes, and went with the Musical March choice. It was quite humorous to watch Andrew & Dan here, who grimaced as their SLOW band marched behind them. Marisa & Brooke, on the other hand, clapped and cheered their bandmates on - which resulted in them moving significantly faster!

Back to the bikes, “Divorced Damsels” Kelly & Christy struggled, as poor Christy endured some vicious “wipe-outs,” banging her head, legs, and hands on cold pavement.

Teams were also notified that a U-TURN was coming up. A U-TURN can be activated by only one team against one other team. If Team #1 “U-Turns” Team #2, that means Team #2 must BACKTRACK and perform the OTHER detour task, in addition to the detour which they have already completed. For lack of a better term, the U-TURN is a DEATHWISH against another team, as it is nearly impossible to recover from. Two other rules germane here: (1) There are only TWO U-Turns in the entire Amazing Race game; (2) A Team may only activate ONE U-Turn in their entire Amazing Race game.

Although Nick & Starr and Aja & Ty seemed to consider U-Turning the fledgling Kelly & Christy, no team activated the U-Turn in this Leg of the Race.

LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE - AMAZING RACE INTERGENDER WRESTLING
***************************************************************************

After the frightening bicycle escapade, teams were off to the Roadblock at Los Titanes del Ring. Here one member of each team would have to dress up in WRESTLING TIGHTS and learn the choreography for a short matchup with a FEMALE pro wrestler! No we are not kidding here!

Ken & Tina were the first team to arrive at the Roadblock, and Ken volunteered to do the honors! Ken was absolutely SHOCKED to discover he would not only be WRESTLING in Bolivia, but that he would be wrestling against a WOMAN!

Ken not only looked fabulous in his bright orange costume and gold cape…..he wrestled like one of the WWE’s finest! Ken performed the sequence of moves to perfection, scored the pinfall, and received the final clue, directing him and Tina to the PITSTOP!

After watching his in-ring ability, we have to wonder - win or lose at the Amazing Race - if a gold championship belt is in Ken’s future………..

Although Ken blitzed through the matchup with ease and grace, many other racers struggled. Poor Mark gave it his best shot but was failed by the judge attempt-after-attempt. Fighting off exhaustion, Mark had to be receive oxygen administration in order to regain his bearings.

We were soooooo delighted to FINALLY see Mark in his “SUPERHERO TIGHTS” and CAPE for the Rasslin’ Roadblock. It broke our hearts to see him struggle with the physical demands of the task. Could there have been Kryptonite hidden underneath that wrestling ring??? Wrestling is “fixed” is it not? We smell a CONSPIRACY at the Bolivian Inter-Gender Wrestling Association!!!!

We would rank the teams’ attempts at the wrestling match as one of the most entertaining moments in Amazing Race history. This task was very difficult, as it tested a team’s physical strength to perform the moves, but also their mental capacity to perform them in the right order, per the choreography. The absurd visual of team members in full wrestling tights and regalia was just unforgettable.

LAST EPISODE WAS NO FLUKE —- KEN AND TINA SCORE FIRST PLACE AGAIN
*************************************************************************

The separated couple of KEN & TINA showed that the previous episode was no fluke —- successfully scoring FIRST PLACE at Phil Keoghan’s mat, and winning a trip to Cabo San Lucas Mexico, courtesy of Travelocity!!!! Once again, Ken & Tina communicated well, remained focused on the tasks, and decisively kept their first place status intact.

As teams continued to check in to the Pitstop, Mark & Bill realized the mistake they had made earlier when they MISREAD the clue and took a Taxi Cab to their detour point instead of “Making their way by FOOT” per the instructions. They went ahead and checked in with Phil, who notified them that they would need to wait 30 minutes [as a penalty for taking an "illegal" form of transportation] before they would be allowed to check in.

Kelly & Christy arrived at the mat fully expecting to be eliminated. Phil then informed them of Mark & Bill’s penalty, and declared them 8th place. Phil then read the “last rites” to Mark & Bill, who were ELIMINATED from the Amazing Race.

OTHER TIDBITS TO NOTE
*******************************

-Nick & Starr and Kelly & Christy were at odds nearly the entire episode. This began with Christy stating that Starr “knocked her sports-bra off the ledge it was drying on” back at the PitStop [Pitstop DRAMA oh my!] Christy exclaimed, “If she (Starr) wants to play dirty she’s gonna get something else.”

-At the U-Turn, Nick & Starr suggested that Aja & Ty U-TURN Kelly & Christy. This irritated Aja & Ty, who later shared this occurrence with Kelly & Christy, further fueling the discontent they have with Nick & Starr.

-Out of all the Racers who tackled the Rasslin’ Roadblock, Ken was by far the BEST wrestler when it came to skill. DALLAS, however, looked the HOTTEST in wrestling tights. Hands down.

-THIS WAS ONE #$%^$%#^ HARD LEG!!!!!!!!!!!!! As former Racers, we can atest - this Leg was brutal. Kudos to all 9 teams for making it to the Mat!!!

MARK & BILL —– SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!
*******************************************

The elimination of our personal FAVORITES and “PICKS TO WIN” was devastating for us to say the least. We had the good fortune to meet Mark & Bill and actually viewed the first Episode with them at their Amazing Race Premiere Party. We felt a bond with them and a common camaraderie.

We MISS racing and we miss it badly. But as we watched Mark & Bill, we really felt like we were “side-by-side” with them, as we cheered on our geek-kinfolk.

Everyone is wondering…..how on EARTH did the Race’s most CEREBRAL team make such a mental oversight? How did they MISREAD the instructions? Mark and Bill had PROVEN in the previous legs that their BRAIN POWER could counteract the BRAWN of the other teams.

After much deliberation……only one explanation can be offered.

The DARK SIDE of the Force descended in Bolivia. And Mark & Bill were it’s victims.

As Master Yoda has taught us: In times of trial, the Dark Side can blind even the most noble of warriors.

THAT is what defeated our superhero friends.

We wish Mark & Bill luck as they continue along their path toward the Jedi Order.

And May the Force be with Them………..Always.
