John Slattery as Roger Sterling in Mad Men (AMC)
Mad Men Sneak Peek Episode 7: “Seven Twenty Three”
In light of his dwindling star power at Sterling Cooper, there’s no doubt Roger Sterling feels the threat of others making strides in the Ad business.
In a clip from Sunday’s episode of ‘Mad Men,’ “Seven Twenty Three,” Roger references the real life “Father of Advertising,” David Ogilvy, and his classic 1963 book “Confessions of an Advertising Man,” a manual in which Ogilvy explains “In the modern world of business, it is useless to be a creative, original thinker unless you can also sell what you create.”
“Advertising’s already up there with lawyers as the most reviled. This is not going to help,” Roger tells Don after being asked for a quote on Ogilvy’s book. “It’ll help him,” Don quips.
“It should be called ‘A Thousand Reasons I’m So Great,’” Roger laments.
