Changes Coming to the Primetime Emmy Awards

It could just be a ploy to boost star power and ratings, but whatever the reason, change is coming to the Primetime Emmy Awards. When you tune in for the best in TV next fall, expect the competition to be even fiercer. That’s because the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences voted to increase the number of nominees from five to six in the following categories: Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series programs, Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy or Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy and Drama Series.

The news is definitely good for us viewers - it means more of our favorites have a chance to be recognized for their stellar work, and more stars to ogle at on the red carpet. For the celebs though, it means a much tighter race - but that’s okay, it’s an honor just to be nominated, right?

The Television Academy Governors also voted to eliminate the two-phase nominating process in the series and performance categories. Instead, voting for Drama and Comedy Series will be determined by the entire Television Academy membership, while nominees in the performer categories will be voted on by the Performer Peer Group.

The only downside I see here is having to wait until September to watch!
