Grey’s Anatomy 100th Episode: “What A Difference A Day Makes”
It’s MerDer’s wedding. Eee! Squee! Oh… never mind. Damn you ABC promo department.
Izzie, wearing a scarf, with a tube in her nose, says you never know which days are the biggest of your life. Today was the wedding. It was perfect.

We flash back. Meanwhile, Meredith and Derek, in street clothes, survey the church where they will be getting married. Meredith is looking forward to being married, not enacting Izzie’s dream wedding.
A healthy, perky Izzie anticipates the wedding. A piece of her hair falls out. Ghost Denny appears. Dammit, Shonda! Why don’t you just ask Jeffrey Dean Morgan out on a date? She tells him she’s going to the wedding even though she knows his presence means she’s dying. Izzie tells Derek that Denny is back. He orders an MRI. Her scan is clear. Izzie insists something is there. Derek suggests inducing her hallucinations while giving her an EEG to pinpoint the problem. Izzie tells Bailey that she loves Alex. After many attempts, Izzie summons Denny. Derek finds a tiny tumor that is impossible to remove.
Derek and the Chief gift Meredith with a solo surgery — an inflamed colon. The Chief insists on scrubbing in. He backseat drives throughout the successful surgery.
Owen tells Christina that her ceiing fan triggered his PTSD attack. She takes it down.
The case of the week is a car full of college students who got hit by a semi on their way to graduation. One by one they all die under George’s watch due to untreatable injuries. Happy wedding day, everybody! One girl, Becca, survives. She was the class valedictorian. Alex gets Becca to deliver her speech before her surgery, since he can’t bear to tell her all her friends died. Owen tells George he did a good job. His actions freed Owen to save Becca.
Arizona is miffed because Callie seemed unenthusiastic when they went to dinner. After much back and forth, Callie reveals her stupid sudden poverty plotline is responsible. She couldn’t afford the expensive restaurant and is worrying about paying for groceries. She explains that her father somehow managed to clean out her bank accounts. Since all the other residents seem to llive on their salaries, this storyline continues to make no sense. They reconcile and eat pizza in bed together.
Alex breaks down when he tells Meredith that Izzie has another tumor. He thinks she’s going to die. Justin Chambers is Emmy worthy in this scene.
After talking to Derek, Meredith gives Izzie her wedding dress. They think Izzie and Alex should be the ones getting married at her dream wedding. Alex appears looking dashing in his tux. You would think romantic Izzie would want him to get down on one knee, but we don’t see any of that. Izzie chooses Christina to be her maid of honor. Meredith is Alex’s best woman. Meredith’s dress miraculously fits Izzie perfectly. I guess she’s lost weight from the chemo. Good thing Derek’s family is inexplicably absent. They probably would have been pissed at this turn of events. George helps her walk down the aisle. Alex recites beautiful vows based on the themes of Becca’s graduation speech. They kiss. Afterwards, Alex brings Izzie back to the hospital. Her hair is falling out in chunks. Alex tells her she’ll look great bald. She tells Denny it was a great day and asks him to go away so she can be alone with Alex. Alex takes off her scarf. She does look good bald. Damn you Katherine Heigl and your perfect bone structure.
So, that was the 100th episode. I found Alex and Izzie’s wedding to be quite moving, but I predict there are going to be a lot of disappointed Mer/Der fans.
