Producer Jon Turteltaub has all sorts of irons in the sci fi fire these days. Of course he’s promoting his new upcoming horror series Harper’s Island on CBS, which, for certain demographic reasons, he’s reluctant to classify as horror per se. Seems Turteltaub feels women won’t watch horror….not unless you call it “mystery.” Apparently we delicate feminine types can’t stomach murder unless you break it to us gently with Angela Lansbury and a pair of knitting needles. (Uh, anyone besides me beg to differ??) At any rate, check out the juicy new preview clip of Harper’s here! Also, Turteltaub’s plans for a feature film of Jericho, as reported by iFMagazine.com, are sure to please many of us who thought we might have to content ourselves with Jericho re-runs on the CW, or here on Fancast, in order to scratch that itch for more from our favorite small Kansas town.

And if you’ve missed Whoopi Goldberg’s presence on the sci fi scene (her spectacular turn as Guinan on Star Trek: The Next Generation took place more a decade ago), take heart: she is producing and starring in Stream, a sci fi web series that just debuted on Fearnet.com. In it, she plays a mentally troubled woman who’s doing the time warp and experiencing her past, present and future, all at the same time.

NBC and the Sci Fi channel were besides themselves with Battlestar’s triumphant return. The final episodes of the Emmy and Peabody-winning series made their highly-anticipated debut last Friday with more than 2.1 million total viewers. It was the #1 cable program in the 10pm hour among men 18-49 and men 25-54, and Sci Fi scored as the #3 cable entertainment network of the night among adults 25-54 and #4 among adults 18-49. That’s probably too much information…but we’re excited the show is back.

Good stuff, and lots more coming…….
