Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (Disney)
Johnny Depp in ‘Pirates 4′? Not So Fast
So Johnny Depp came out at Disney’s big D23 expo show and announced that he was on board for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the boffo franchise. Everything looked ducky. Then, just one week later, Mouse House CEO Bob Iger ousted its studio head Dick Cook, who is one of the most well-liked and well-connected men in the business, and the main reason Depp was gung-ho about keeping the franchise going. In response to that, Depp has now said that “there’s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment” for continuing on as Captain Jack Sparrow. He goes on to say that Cook is “instantly trustworthy. And you generally don’t meet people at the studios you trust.” Depp certainly doesn’t have any reason to trust Disney right about now. So stay tuned for further developments.
