Natalie Portman Admits She’s Cut Herself
Natalie Portman has a huge lineup of work on her docket, including writing and directing a vignette and starring in another one for the ensemble project New York, I Love You, as well as her first comedy in Your Highness, a Darren Aronofsky project called Black Swan and the big-time Marvel super-hero movie Thor, not to mention this December’s Brothers, after all of which she says she will “take a nap - for like, two months. Right now, I’m working probably more than is good for me, but sometimes it’s good to exceed your boundaries and stretch yourself.”
Part of this is the fact that she’s grown up, and that’s what’s reflected in her work, taking on so much responsibility. She reveals how interconnected her work and her life can really be. “Just as what you are feeling in your life affects your acting, what you act in definitely affects what you are feeling in your life,” Portman admitted. “Whether you want it to or not, and even if you don’t know it, it bleeds into your life. I made Heat when I was 14 and played a girl who died. A year later, I got into a fight with my mother and cut myself. I had never done it before and I never did it after that, but I think having my wrists bloody in a movie definitely affected my psyche. At this point, I want to be a woman on-screen because I want to be a woman in my life. I don’t want to be a little girl.”
