Paula Goodspeed, a deranged fan who was obsessed with Paula Abdul, committed suicide outside of the singer’s home yesterday. Inside Edition found an even darker side to the story: Goodspeed had actually tried out for Idol in 2005 and had a few exchanges with Simon Cowell. A video featuring Goodspeed speaking to Idol’s backstage cameras will air on tonight’s IE, but the show made the transcript available (after the jump)

Goodspeed also blogged about her American Idol audition on her MySpace page, where she mentions having auditioned in both, Texas and Las Vegas and also previously at So You Think You Can Dance. She indicates that she went through three rounds of auditions, some which included speaking with the show’s producers, who both seemed to encourage her to continue singing; “Both judges were really cool to me and really getting into my performence![sp]” she says, but then complains about her portrayal on AI, saying “That’s where Idol mistrewed [sp] some things! It’s TV and they will say whatever…I guess….”

During the audition, Simon Cowell commented on her braces, and asked her how she could possibly sing “with all that metal in your mouth.” In the blog, Goodspeed seems dejected: “Simon made that comment about my braces 5 months ago in Sept. 05 and now …since the show aired this month {Feb. 06}, theres been soo many people bashing me for having braces, as if “I am the only person on national television that wears braces”

She ends her blog by saying that “it doesn’t stop here…soon I will prove myself worthy as a singer and take the world by storm, with my fashion, dance…etc!!”

Inside Edition Transcript:

Goodspeed: “I really like Paula Abdul a lot. She’s really cool…I’m like a really big fan and I make life-size drawings of Paula. I’ve been drawing ever since I was a little kid, and my first drawing was of Paula Abdul.”

IE: Goodspeed traveled from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas for the “American Idol” auditions. She had braces and was dressed like a gypsy, and said the look was inspired by Abdul.

Goodspeed: “Definitely, I really think I’m a pop star. They call me fashion genius.”

IE: When it came time to appear before “American Idol” judges, Simon Cowell noticed Goodspeed’s resemblance to Abdul.

Cowell: “A similarity here…more than just the name…I see it definitely…You’re beautiful…It’s a compliment.”

IE: But the judges weren’t impressed with Goodspeed’s version of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary.”

Cowell: “Well Paula, I’m speechless…Don’t know what to say…Is that good or bad…It’s not a great thing.”

IE: Goodspeed was sent home, and showed her anger in an expletive filled post-audition interview.

Goodspeed: “I was pitchy on a couple of notes. Big **** deal…They send a lot to HW that can’t even really hold a note. It’s not over and I’m not gonna stop singing just cause you don’t like my voice.”
