Jon & Kate: What’s Next - Hollywood Insiders Weigh In

With word leaked that ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ may officially be nearing an end, it raises a quesiton.

What’s next for Jon and Kate?

It’s time to start thinking about it.

The latest promo for TLC’s reality show hinted the once-popular series is most likely nearing an inglorious end by saying, “With only a limited number of episodes remaining, Jon and Kate spend quality time with those who matter.”

The network had been set to air a revamped version titled “Kate Plus 8,” which indicated which side they chose in the couple’s nasty divorce. But Jon got production shut down by sending threatening legal letters, claiming production had become detrimental to his children.

“The network obviously thought the situation offered more grief than gravy,” says one Hollywood manager who has dealt with the reality world for years. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see them initiate a show starring Kate as she gets her life in order. There are a lot of single moms out there who could identify with her.”

And Jon?

“He should go away immediately,” says a veteran Hollywood publicist. “So should she. Their 15 minutes have been up for quite some time now.”

“Why would anyone want to watch them on TV when they can see their incessant marital squabbles conveyed to the media by both of them on a regular basis?” the publicist continues. “The off-camera fighting has usurped whatever happens on the show. They are an egregious case study of an horrendous PR campaign.”

“It’s time for both of them to end their narcissism and focus on their children. I hope that they saved enough money for family therapy.”

A longtime agent echoes that sentiment, sort of.

“After Jon returns that $180,000 he was ordered to repay, he should invest everything he has left and figure out the rest of his life away from the cameras spotlight,” says the talent wrangler.

Given the lure of fame and the good money they made (Jon told Larry King he earned $1,000,000 last year, and kept half that after taxes and commissions), it’s unlikely either will disappear.

Talk has circulated that Kate is in discussions about doing a mom-oriented talk show that would also include Food Network star Paula Deen and others.

“Of the two, I think she’s fascinating,” says the Hollywood manager. “She’s not a rocket scientist or even that sophisticated, but she seems kind of bright – bright enough anyway. More importantly, I think she’s touched a nerve with women across America. She may be even more interesting – and worth more money – now than before.”

“If I was managing her, I’d probably try to get her on `Dancing with the Stars,’” says another talent-oriented insider. “People would root for her. She’s clearly the one people are rooting for while Jon acts out and self-destructs.”

“If he didn’t have a girlfriend, I’d suggest he do ‘The Bachelor,’” continues the insider. “He’s going to be a tough sell for the longterm.”

How about short-term?

“Why not a stunt?” he says. “Maybe should marry Octomom. Then it would be Jon & Nadya Plus 16. If two is better than one, maybe 16 is better than 8.”

“In all seriousness,” he adds, “I just hope they go away. I’m ready for something better.”
