Having an affair might have caused trouble for David Letterman’s marriage but when it comes to television ratings things couldn’t be better.

The Late Show‘ has seen a spike of around 13 percent, going from 4 million to 4.4 million viewers, since Letterman’s public disclosure of his affair with one of his employees and an alleged extortion attempt against the late-night host, reports the New York Post.

While the scandal might have boosted Letterman’s ratings another factor is currently in play — Jay Leno’s absence from the late-night slot has given Letterman a leg up in the ongoing ‘Late Show’ and ‘Tonight Show‘ ratings war.

Leno’s move to prime-time hasn’t been too successful for the comedian with current ratings for his new show hitting an all-time low (4.6 million), according to the New York Daily News.

After taking a break last week Letterman is back with all new episodes of ‘The Late Show.’
