The good news? Rules Of Engagement returns to the CBS comedy lineup with its third season premiere on Monday, March 2 at 9:30. The bad news? Worst Week is out… for now.
These days, the No 1. comedy network has plenty of shows to choose from to keep its ratings lead going well into next Fall. Fans of “Rules” have been holding their breath, waiting for the news that the David Spade slacker-meets-real-world-committed-couples series would return to its old time slot, leaving the up-and-coming challenger Worst Week gasping in the dust.
But it hasn’t been a given.
Worst Week, the Kyle Bornheimer slapstick sitcom about a new fiance trying his best to impress his less than enthusiastic future in-laws had a shaky start (despite its top-rated lead-in Two And A Half Men) but has been gaining in popularity with viewers over the last few episodes.
Must be nice. These are the kind of mid-season shuffleboard maneuvers you can pull when you own the comedy playing field a couple of nights a week.
The Tiffany Network has been polishing the silverware with shows like How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures Of Old Christine and Gary Unmarried and took a shot with Worst Week that didn’t quite pan out. The show ends its run on Feb 9th, with reruns expected through the following three weeks.
But the always timely THR TV columnist James Hibberd points out that “CBS ordered and will air 15 episodes of ‘Worst,’ putting the half-hour in an unusual limbo world of a series that wasn’t entirely cut short, yet wasn’t a full order.”
So there’s hope yet for WW fans.
What do you think? Are you glad to see Worst Week fade away, or have you been warming up to it?
