Show Of The Day: ‘Andy Barker, P.I.’
.
The other day Conan O’Brien announced his new partner in comedy on “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” will be a familiar - Andy Richter. Richter was O’Brien’s sidekick on “Late Night” at the beginning, between 1993 and 2000. “He still owes me $300,” O’Brien said. Maybe it’s from when the two last teamed up on ‘Andy Barker, P.I.,’ a quirky comedy about a CPA turned private eye that ran briefly in 2007.
Six episodes of the series were ordered, and Entertainment Weekly gave it a B+, explaining “Andy Barker isn’t as complete a comedy as Andy Richter Controls the Universe — the first three episodes feel like a series of very funny bits that have been welded together. But so did 30 Rock when it first started, and that’s now the best comedy on TV.”
Nevertheless, the show was pulled from NBC’s schedule after the fourth one aired.
