Tom Brokaw Temping On “Meet The Press”

Looks like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann smackdown has been called off. Cross out Brian Williams and David Gregory as immediate successors to Tim Russert as host of NBC’s Sunday morning stalwart Meet the Press. From now through the
November Presidential elections, Tom Brokaw will host grill candidates and query pundits about policy, politics, and the state of America. “I volunteered,” Brokaw told the New York Times‘ David Carr in a telephone interview from his ranch in Montana. “A number of people had suggested it. Steve Capus [president of NBC News] and I talked about it over the weekend. I looked at my calendar and manipulated a couple of personal things, and I told him I can get us through the election.” It was Brokaw who joked last week that the majority of those attending Russert’s memorial in Washington, D.C, were those jockeying for his job.
