Tuned In: What’s Hot, Hotter And Definitely Not Happening On TV
What’s Hot: Friday Ratings
A surging “Ghost Whisperer,” Canadian import “Flashpoint,” and the reliable “Numb3rs” helped CBS to another nightly ratings victory Friday, soundly beating the competition in every timeslot.
The Eye led the way with a strong (for Friday) 6.7 rating/12 share. FOX came in second with a 3.6/6, while ABC (3.2/6) NBC (3.1/5) and The CW (0.9/2) trailed.
CBS continues to shine this TV season based on the strengths of its procedurals, and Friday nights are no exception. The other networks need serious help on this night, so stay tuned to see if there’ll be some big changes here (but please NBC, don’t pull “Friday Night Lights” from the schedule!)
What’s Hotter: Friday Night Lights
Despite its lackluster ratings, “Friday Night Lights” remains one of the best hours of television, period. The series just aired its second episode on NBC after a successful run on Direct TV in the fall. (In a revolutionary move, NBC and Direct TV teamed up to save the critically acclaimed but ratings challenged show by agreeing to split costs, thus allowing a third season to take place.) It’s truly sad and baffling that more viewers aren’t tuning in to watch this drama about life in a small town in Texas.
Maybe some people are turned off by the name and think it’s all about sports. Maybe it’s because it’s on Friday nights, the second-least watched day besides the wasteland that is now Saturday night TV. Regardless, this show merits a look if you’ve never tuned in … the acting is superb from Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton as the parents on down the line to Zach Gilford, star in the making Taylor Kitsch and Adrianne Palicki as the kids you ache and feel for in every episode. NBC needs to be lauded for giving us another season with the Dillon Panthers, and let’s hope this isn’t the last. Fans of quality TV need to watch this show, and most importantly tell a friend or five to watch too.

What’s Definitely Not Happening:
Have we finally seen the last of Denny the ghost on “Grey’s Anatomy“? Mercifully, it seems like that might be the case. In Thursday night’s episode, Izzy finally got that Denny was HERE for her, as it appears he is a figment of her imagination that is showing up to carry her along to the afterlife. It does appear as if something is very wrong with Dr. Stevens, and that Katherine Heigl just might get her wish after all to be off the hit ABC series.
Watching her character talk to, argue with and even make love to someone we all know wasn’t there has been painful to watch. Please Shonda Rimes, stop the insanity and bring us more of what we love at Seattle Grace, and you can start with more of the dynamic pairing of Dr. Hunt and Christina. More please … and as for Izzy? We’ll see if her character can be salvaged, but please, no more ghostly apparitions and “Ghost”-like sex. (Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze have the market cornered on that.)
