NBC has got to breathing a huge sigh of relief right now. Last night’s debut of ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien‘ premiered to a 7.1/17 rating, the biggest Monday audience for the program in over four years. And fans of the lanky and quirky redhead were pleasantly surprised to see he retained his offbeat style while shifting up an hour and changing coasts. It remains to be seen if the show can maintain its lead over ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ but so far so good. It’s just the kind of good news NBC needs after a disastrous TV season.

Monday TV Highlights:

NBC had more people buzzing last night with the premiere of the trashtastically awful ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.’ With a cast that includes Spencer & Heidi Pratt, Janice Dickinson, Sanjaya, something called “Frangela” among others, one could say the word “celebrity” is very loosely used here at best. What’s not in doubt is the sheer entertainment we witnessed, mainly thanks to the Pratts. Thank God they were talked out of leaving the show before it started by an NBC producer (Apparently Spencer thought it would be a Club Med vacation, not a D-list battle for survival.) The ratings are out, and the two-hour premiere bested ‘The Bachelorette‘ and grew in every half-hour, so it would appear the world isn’t sick of Speidi…just yet. Watch Heidi’s breakdown below and tune in tonight at 8pm ET for night 2…we definitely will! **UPDATE: It looks like Speidi has left Costa Rica and the show after just one episode.

Meanwhile on ‘The Bachelorette,’ Jillian sent three more guys packing, including Sasha, which was a bit of a shocker. (Apparently she didn’t like the fact that the Texan had never had his heart broken.) Surprisingly, she did keep the creepy Tanner P., who has the strange toe fetish. There’s online speculation that he could actually be a gay friend of hers who was brought on to “spy” on the bachelors to see who’s there for the right reasons. Wes sang his song for her, and she melted, and lots of kissing ensued. It’s still early, but we’d bet that Wes and pilot Jake will be two of the last guy standing.

Tuesday Sizzlers:

  • I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here: 8pm ET on NBC Night 2…Will anyone watch now that Speidi has left the show?
  • Paris Hilton’s My New BFF: 10pm on MTV Apparently her search for true friendship ended poorly last year, so Ms. Hilton is back in her quest for a new lapdog (BFF).
  • Law & Order: SVU: 10pm on NBC It’s the season finale. Will Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay be back next year? Surely this contract disupte will be solved…guys??
